NO INTERNATIONAL SALES OF THIS ITEM! A very neat WW1 theatre made fighting knife with a scabbard that was set up to be worn on the standard belt or hung from a pistol or cartridge belt. The knife blade is 7 ¾” long and 1”+ wide at the guard and the knife measures 11 ¾” long overall. It’s still very sharp and the original spine grind line is so well done that I suspect the blade started life elsewhere. There are some marks on the blade as seen in the photos that were the result of expedient sharpening at some time in its’ life. The brass guard is brazed on, the handle is of stacked leather with a pommel made from a heavy square wagon nut. All is tight and serviceable and feels good in the hand. The scabbard is unlike anything else I’ve ever had in my collection. The lower main body edging is stitched with iron wire. The upper part has five “lift the dot” fastenings that allow the use of either of two back pieces. One is for wearing the knife on a standard trouser style belt, the other has a hand made M1910 hook for attachment to any Mills pattern web belt. All fasteners have period marked United-Carr parts. The retaining strap shows wear consistent with heavy use so this was not just an idle time project. All leather is supple and strong, the strap wear duly noted. This was a Maine estate sale find so I strongly suspect the maker/owner was with the Yankee Division, most likely in the 103rd Infantry Regiment. A truly unique and absolutely authentic trench war artifact. Please see the photos for anything I may have missed. From a smoke-free home. U.S.A SALES ONLY, I SHIP TO U.S. ADDRESSES ONLY!
